Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 August 2026
Yarna is a knitting and crochet companion for iPhone and iPad: row counters, chart tracking, and a library for your own patterns. It is built to keep your craft on your device. This policy explains, in plain language, what data is and is not handled when you use Yarna.
What stays on your device (and your iCloud)
- Projects, counters, and charts. Everything you make in Yarna is stored in the app on your device.
- Patterns. PDF and image patterns you import, and any marks or notes you add to them, are stored only in the app. They are never uploaded to us and never leave your device except through your own iCloud, described next.
- iCloud sync. If your device is signed in to iCloud, Yarna syncs your data through your personal, private iCloud storage so it appears on your other devices. That data lives in your Apple account. We have no server and no access to it.
What is collected
Purchases. Yarna uses RevenueCat to manage its subscription and lifetime purchase. When you buy or restore, the purchase's product and status are processed so the app you paid for unlocks and restores across your devices, and so we can see aggregate sales. This record is tied to an anonymous, app-generated identifier — not your name, email, or Apple Account — and is not used for advertising or cross-app tracking. Payments themselves are handled entirely by Apple; Yarna never sees your payment details.
Usage statistics (optional). Yarna records anonymous product events — for example, that a counter was used or a screen was opened — to understand what to improve. These events carry a random, app-local identifier that is not the advertising identifier and is not linked to you. They never include your project names, pattern files, chart contents, or anything you type or draw. You can switch this off at any time in Settings → Privacy, which also discards anything not yet sent.
What is never collected
- No account, name, email address, or phone number.
- No location data.
- No advertising identifiers and no tracking across apps or websites.
- No contents of your patterns, notes, marks, or charts — ever.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions renew through your Apple Account and can be managed or cancelled any time in your device's Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Service providers
Three providers act on our behalf: Apple (App Store payments, delivery, and your private iCloud sync), RevenueCat (purchase management, described above), and Mixpanel (the optional anonymous usage statistics, described above). Each processes only what is needed for its function, under its own privacy terms.
Your rights
Because Yarna holds no account and stores your work only on your device and in your own iCloud, deleting the app (and its iCloud data in Settings) removes that data. For the anonymous records held by our providers, or any question about your data — including access or deletion requests under the GDPR or similar laws — contact us at the address below and we will help.
Children
Yarna is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
